You can jump aboard one of the program boats with a licensed captain and US Sailing instructor to participate in the weekly sailboat races. Your 'Coach' will help you review basics of sailing and start to learn more about the dynamic of racing. Each event lasts about 2 hrs long and generally follows with a debrief at the Port Angeles Yacht Club. Race start times are 6PM and participants are expected to be at the boat by 5:15 to prep the boat and be ready to be off the dock by 5:30. *Events are weather dependent and if there is a small craft advisory or higher the instructor may cancel the outing for safety reasons. If canceled then we'll roll your fee over to a future race.
Adult Dinghy
Ever dreamed of gliding through the water, salt spray in your face, in control of your own sailboat? This course is open to all levels but is intended as an introduction to sailing in small boats, or dinghies. Our fleet is comprised of Vanguard 15’s, a fast and fun 2 person dinghy. You will learn how to rig and launch the boats, how to perform basic maneuvers safely, and how to tie the relevant knots. With a little practice and the right conditions you may even get to experience the magic of planing under sail! Even though these boats serve well for training new sailors, they do require some balance, agility, and fitness to sail in stronger winds. We will also teach you how to right your boat after a capsize! Classes are weather dependent and may be limited to onshore only if too severe. Lifejackets and wetsuits will be required by all participants.
